The Boundary End Center is delighted to announce that Mary Kate Kelly and Maxime Lamoureux-St-Hilaire have been appointed as the inaugural George Stuart Residential Scholars for the Fall and Spring Semesters of the 2018-19 academic year.
Mary Kate Kelly (M.A., B.A.) is a Ph.D. Candidate in Linguistic Anthropology at Tulane University, where her advisor is Dr. Marc Zender. Her doctoral research investigates the sociopolitical influences on linguistic variation in Late Classic Maya hieroglyphic writing. At BEC, Mary Kate is working on completing her dissertation, entitled Speech Carved in Stone: Language Variation among the Ancient Lowland Maya. Mary Kate is also the project epigrapher for the Proyecto Regional Arqueológico El Perú – Waka ́.
Maxime Lamoureux-St-Hilaire (Ph.D., M.A., B.Sc.) recently graduated from the Ph.D. program in Anthropological Archaeology at Tulane University. His dissertation, entitled Palatial Politics: The Classic Maya Royal Court at La Corona, Guatemala, studies Classic Maya political institutions from a pragmatic, interdisciplinary perspective. At BEC, Max is expanding upon his doctoral research and seeking a way to bridge ancient politics and the political present. In addition, Maxime is collaborating on distinct projects with BEC board member Mat Saunders of AFAR.
Beyond advancing their research projects, Mary Kate and Max are dedicating time to organize the BEC library resources and to promote the center’s research mission and publications.
